Faculty Brief
The faculty of Allied Medical Sciences was established as one of the branches of health education for the comprehensive renaissance witnessed by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as one of the faculties of the prestigious Amman Private University, the first private university in Jordan, to improve the health and treatment services provided to citizens. It has taken upon itself the graduation of qualified health cadres to work in the field of health care. The first academic department affiliated with the college was established under the name of Medical Laboratory Sciences (Medical Analysis) in 1990. In 2001, the Department of Hearing and Speech was established to expand the college's scientific and academic base and achieve its goals through the good preparation of distinguished health cadres. The specialization of Optometry was created, which is the first specialization that qualifies them to work in the health care field. In 2015, the only one of its kind in the Arab world at the level of private universities in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was also created to keep pace with the demand for the profession of optics locally and regionally, in addition to the importance of this specialization for eye and vision care. The specialization has obtained special accreditation from the Higher Education Accreditation Commission and Quality Assurance. The specialization of Cosmetology was also created in 2019 to make the college and Amman Private University distinguished in offering this specialization at the level of Jordanian universities. The introduction of this specialization came to meet the need of the local and regional labor market to graduate qualified cadres in the field of cosmetology. The college expanded its offering of programs that meet the needs of the community, especially in the master's programs, as teaching began in the Master's program in Medical Laboratory Sciences at the beginning of the academic year 2019/2020 in the thesis track, then the comprehensive track for the same program was offered in the academic year 2020/2021. At the beginning of this academic year 2021/2022, teaching began in the Master's program in Communication Sciences and Disorders/Comprehensive Track affiliated with the Department of Hearing and Speech. In response to the needs of the local and regional labor market, a Bachelor's program in Physiotherapy was created in the academic year 2022/2023. A Bachelor's program in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology was created in the academic year 2023/2024 as the first program in the region and the Middle East and North Africa to meet the technological development in pharmaceutical industries and research and the increasing demand for the development of biological drugs. In continuation of the faculty’s vision and mission to create unique programs in applied medical professions, a Master’s program in Audiology was created. In addition, a Bachelor's program in Occupational Therapy was created in the academic year 2024/2025 in response to the needs of the local and regional markets.
